Some new Dog Creations

Here are some new tile and canvas paintings of some remarkably good looking dogs.  I paint with acrylic on various tile surfaces, smooth and coarse. Each has it's own challenge . When the painting is complete I finish with a gloss varnish to protect the image.

And than there's beautiful Bogie who I had the good fortune of painting again.

Horse Sculpture

Here is a new horse sculpture I am working on using Terra cotta clay.
I started with a 25 pound block of clay and have carved and shaped to create the form. When the clay becomes medium hard I hollow out the inside which eliminates a lot of the weight and in this case keeps the horses heavy body from collapsing and the legs from disconnecting from the body. I do not use an armature. I support the piece with struts under the belly and near the front legs. In this case the tail helps support the back legs. When I am finished I will use a wire cutter to create a line of separation on the struts and actual sculpture.
After the piece is fired I will  be able to easily remove the struts.

Horse Sculpture and Male Model Sculpture

I am addicted to sculpting. Totally immersed in the process of creating 3 dimensions....
The medium I am using is clay.

So here are 2 more sculptures I am working on. The word is working on not complete. Sculpture is a slow process from beginning to end. Currently I am working on 4 pieces simultaneously. Here are 2 of those 4.

Horse at Warner Springs Ranch

On one of my journeys to Warner Springs Ranch here in San Diego I photographed the resident horses.
One of these photos was the inspiration behind this new painting. The painting  tittled "Sunday" is  a 28" x 22" oil on linen.
My fascination of horses continues to grow. Large beautiful  and powerful beasts......
I am simultaneously working on a horse sculpture which I will post upon completion. So here is the new painting

Some Sculpture

I have been working. I'm just working in another medium. Sculpture has captured my attention and I have decided to allow myself another segue of expressing my creativity. Remember I'm new at this but working with 3 dimensions, hills and valleys it is very exciting.
So here are some images of one of the pieces that I have been working on.

Sun Shower

An experiment in uncomfortableness. Whilst working on this painting I decided to keep the color down, more muted and less defined. This was quite challenging for me as I love to throw stokes of vivid in unexpected areas. I also wanted to create a feeling of undefined not precise maybe a little feeling of agitation and could you.....

This is how it stands.

I have a new website check it out:

New Year Some New Paintings

I am preparing for a show starting January 15 and have been working on some portraits of the people that work at 508 Salon in Carlsbad. So here they are.

There's one other painting for fun.....Baby Bear... Baby Bear who has worked his way in to a few of my paintings...because he helps to create or define the soul of my paintings.
