Mandarin Revisit

This is a 20" x 24" oil on wood. I've used both pallet knife and brush. No solvents or medium...just straight up oil paint.

A few years back I painted a similar painting using the same reference , a photo I took at the San Diego Safari Park.
I've changed my pallet/colors, substrate and composition so as not to recreate the same painting.
The first painting has found it's way into a good home.
So here it is so far...almost done.

Black Phoebe Fledglings Oil Painting on Canvas

I think I'm going to leave this painting for now. Better under finished then over.
"Four Black Phoebe Fledglings"   16" x 16" oil...applied mostly with pallet knife and some brush on unstreched canvas...

New Paintingt..Baby Black Phoebes.....

I photographed these 4 beautiful black phoebe fledglings in our hibiscus bush.
Enjoying the negatives spaces...color contrast and over all joyful experience of recreating the image.
This is an oil painting on unstretched canvas  12" x 12"  .  This is the second day I've been working on it...maybe one more day to completion.   So here it is:
