The Great Ambassador Victor the Cheetah

An Ode to a Great Ambassador, one who worked to give a better understanding of the world of Cheetahs.

The large spotted cat found in Africa and parts of Asia. The fastest animal on land kind of Cheetah.

This is a 40" x 30" oil on linen in the process. Probably the last painting of 2020.

I had the wonderful experience of meeting this Great Ambassador named Victor, photographing him and observing him.

He passed this year. In honor of him I paint this painting.   RIP Victor the Great Ambassador.

Young Cambria Buck

Watched this Buck when I visited Cambria Ca. last December. I was sitting on a deck off the upstairs bedroom looking down when he came by with his family .

Trying to remain subtle in my values here...for me this requires concentration and control....Challenging but rewarding.

So here he is...day 3 .  Just a bit more to go.

20 x 16 oil on linen

Leopard time

Catching Conga the leopards expression as she peered around a structure was priceless. Wide eyed, focused and ready to pounce. Working from the photograph...this is a painting I will label part of the process.

This may be as far as I take it....... for now here she is:

Fun time

I enjoy exploring and trying new ways...staying connected to my creative spirit...

When I work to create for myself all kinds of good and sometimes not so good things emerge. Having a voice is one thing but sharing it is another..

So without further ado here's what I've been working on. These are small oil on birchwood using only pallet knives...fun

Saturday, October 3, 2020

It's Bear time....

The painting I am presently working on is a Grizzly Bear named Albert.  I took photos of him when I visited Lions Tigers and Bears in San Diego. He has since passed.

I wanted to show his Bigness...he also seemed to have a very gentle soul.  Albert and his sister Cherry Bomb were captive their whole lives.

This is a 18" x 24" oil on line board.   Almost complete, maybe one more day...

Coyote...tentatively balanced on a rock

 Here's the painting I'm currently working on. It's a 24" x 30" oil on linen.

This coyote has a possible dinner in sight but he's awkwardly teetering on a rock. Holding still with strong interest in what might be a bite to eat.

Working this one from mid tones out.  Practicing patience and some control.  Day 4.

Dancing in the Sunlight....A new Bear Painting

Here's Dancing in the Sunlight 30" x 24" oil on linen...Day 3 of applying the paint. Not done yet. I say this because I also did an oil study on paper from a photograph I took of a Grizzly bear in Montana than used a photograph I took of gathering crows and incorporated the 2 into one. Did an initial draw in of the painting to get the size and anatomy right then laid down a foundation of color started working large shapes to smaller shapes worked from mid values out after years of study and practice and workshops with some incredible artists like Greg Beecham and Julie T Chapman and going to college and studying in Europe owning two Galleries and an art consulting business and building a collector base, selling worldwide and generally working my butt off making mistakes and learning dealing with critiques positive and negative winning awards...and that folks is how I come to how much I value my hard work and substantiating a price for my work.

Sold another painting last week...A Fox... off to a collector in Idaho.

The Elusive Observer.....Mountain lion revisited

A while back I painted this image and sold it.  Last week I decided to paint the image again...a few years later.   Felt like I was visiting an old friend.  Time has changed the way I see and how I portray what I see. Subtly...so here it is..."The Elusive Observer" , AKA Conrad, 20" x 24"  oil on linen.

Next painting of the New Year A Deer

I met this deer one September afternoon in Montana. Strolling through a park with a fellow artist/friend we saw this deer with two of her young'n. She seemed to instruct her kids to go ahead and hide while she would deal with these curiosities.

So here she is. I just worked on her one day so far and still have some more work to go.

12" x 16" Oil on linen.

More work done next day...Going to call this complete!
